Hong Kong Freemasons' Annual Appeal
The three Constitutions of Freemasons in Hong Kong - The District Grand Lodge of the Far East (Scottish Constitution), the District Grand Lodge of Hong Kong and the Far East (English Constitution), and the Provincial District Grand Lodge of Ireland (Irish Constitution) have organised an Annual Appeal to raise funds for a specific charity each year.
The form of fund-raising is by means of a walk, whereby the participants raise money by sponsorship, as well as from their own donations to this cause.
2010 Appeal - Walk for Charity
The aim of the Appeal for 2010 is to raise funds for a unit at the United Christian Hospital that treats vascular birthmarks in children.
The Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the hospital started providing laser treatment to children born with disfiguring birthmarks in 2006. By removing the red, brown or black pigments on the children's faces, the treatment is able to restore their self-confidence and self-esteem. The goal is to relieve the despair, anxiety and psychological trauma, not only for the children, but also for their families. To date, this is the only Birthmark Laser Treatment Centre in Hong Kong.
As a fund-raising activity in connection with this appeal, a sponsored walk was held on Sunday, 24 October 2010 on Lamma Island.
